About Ion chromatography
Ion chromatography is a special HPLC for performing ion analysis. A dilute salt solution is used for the mobile phase, a column having ion exchange ability for the stationary phase, and an electric conductivity detector as the detector. By installing a device called a suppressor that neutralizes the mobile phase just before the detector, stable analysis with high sensitivity is possible.
In addition to ionic components (chloride ion, sulfate ion, sodium ion, calcium ion etc.), organic acids and saccharides dissociated in aqueous solution are also analyzed by ion chromatography.
